Saludos, familias.
Our winter break is here, and there’s no question that this winter you have all earned it! As we head into vacation, please read below for some important updates and reminders.
- After a week off we return to school on Monday, February 23. Please note that in addition to schools, all LPS offices will also be closed this Monday, February 16 for the President’s Day holiday.
- I look forward to hosting another round of Virtual Coffee Hours after vacation (see flyer in 2026 February Coffee Hour Flyer English or 2026 February Coffee Hour Flyer Spanish), on the evenings of Monday through Wednesday, February 23-25. You can sign up to join us now, and I hope to see you there!
- One of the items we’ll be covering at Coffee Hours is expansion of full-day pre-school. Our new full-day preschool program has been a great success this year, and we are excited to be offering more seats in 2026-27. In addition to Coffee Hours, keep an eye on our social media platforms, the LPS website, and at your child’s school for details on eligibility and how to apply when the window opens next month.
- Finally, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for continuing to prioritize and support school attendance during this challenging stretch of winter weather, and recognize our facilities team – with the support of Lawrence Department of Public Works – for their tireless efforts in keeping buildings open and safe. Let’s hope the snow takes a break!
Please have a warm, dry, and restful week, a great holiday weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all on February 23.
Respectfully,
Ralph Carrero
Superintendent
Lawrence Public Schools
